[edit] Rotational Sunday School Schedule
Rotational Sunday School is the latest hit at SUMC! The kids experience a different station each week during Sunday School, learning about a theme in many different ways over a course of 5 - 7 weeks. Some compare it to the fun of Vacation Bible School!
[edit] Church School Classes and child care
Sunday school classes for ages 3 through grade 7 meet during the 9 a.m. service and ages 3 through high school meet during the 10:45 a.m. service during the regular church year. Confirmation is 10:30-11:45. Younger children attend worship for the first part of the service and then leave for classes after the Children's Message.
Classes use a variety of age-appropriate curriculum resources. Take-home packets for parents with activity suggestions help reinforce weekly themes. The church school program is coordinated by the Education Work Area and Kelly Hutchinson, Coordinator of Educational Ministries, and is supported by more than 60 teachers and helpers, who give freely of their time and talents.
If you are new to our church or our community and would like to register your children, please call Kelly, 371-7964, ext. 13, or send her an e-mail, khutchinson@shenmeth.org.
Free baby and toddler care is provided by paid professional staff during the 7:45 a.m., 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services.
[edit] Confirmation
Confirmation Class for eighth graders is Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m.
[edit] Disciple Bible Studies
Disciple Bible Study is designed to develop strong Christian leaders through the in-depth study of Scripture. Disciple Bible study has vision and hope. The vision is that the Bible will be understood as the living Word. The hope is that the Word will transform us. Disciple is based on a combination of private reading, personal reflection and group discussion. Each lesson includes a video presentation by an expert scholar whose goal is to help us be comfortable in dealing with the Bible together as disciples. Courses begin each September and run through the church year. Once you have taken Disciple I, you may take any of the other courses in whatever order you choose.
The courses include:
Disciple I, "Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study," Foundation Course, covers the whole Bible in 34 lessons.
Disciple II, "Into the Word, Into the World" Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts. 32 lessons.
Disciple III, "Remember Who You Are," The Prophets and the letters of Saint Paul, 32 lessons.
"Jesus in the Gospels," an additional course which follows the Disciple format and takes a close look at
all four gospels at the same time. 30 lessons.
Youth Disciple I, less intense version of Disciple I, geared toward teens whose lives are already overflowing with schoolwork and extra-curricular activities.
